WINE PROCESSED PUNA KAZUMURA

Nearly all of our Puna coffees have been processed with wine yeasts this year. We’re so excited to share them with you!
Over the past 3 years we've tested an array of wine and cider yeasts, using them to control coffee fermentation and hone the tasting notes.
This year, marking our 10th anniversary, you'll enjoy a  special edition of Puna Kazumura, fermented with two wine yeasts: chardonnay and cider.

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF PUNA KAZUMURA: THE NAMESAKE

Kazumura Cave is the longest and deepest lava tube in the world. At 41 miles in length and 3,614’ deep, it extends all the way from Kilauea Crater to the Pacific Ocean. Along its path, the tube passes through our 3-acre farm in Hawaiian Acres.

Seven years ago, while exploring the tunnels of Kazumura Cave, we observed something strangely familiar in the smell of the air - something we just couldn't pin. After bending over to taste the lava rock filtered water, we recognized the familiarity: our coffee! As we thought about it, the flavors made sense. The roots of our coffee trees are submerged in the same mineral-laden rock that filters the rainwater. One mineral at a time, our trees are absorbing the Kazumura Lava Tube into their branches and cherries. And as you drink the coffee, you may be sipping on the same minerals laid by Kilauea's volcanic crater 500 years ago.

Truly a place with an energy all its own, we honor the rich, volcanic properties the Kazumura Lava Tube imparts on our coffee. We find it only fitting that our flagship coffee holds this moniker.
