Kona Bloom | 100% Kona Coffee

Tasting notes: Honey-butter, toffee, nougat, jasmine, cacao, stone fruit (peach and apricot). Light and syrupy mouthfeel.
Origin: 100% Kona coffee, hand-harvested

For bright and sweet coffee lovers, our medium roast 100% Kona coffee - Kona Bloom - comes from the same farm as our best-selling Kona Moon and Kona Peaberry. These sweet, floral and balanced Kona coffee beans are unflavored and have tasting notes of jasmine, peach, honey, caramel, and toffee.

Compared with our other medium Hawaiian coffees, Kona Bloom is a bit more smooth, floral, and delicate, while Ka'u Wood Valley is brighter, akin to white wine, and Maui Mellow has stronger notes of roasted nuts.

After Kona Bloom is milled, it undergoes three additional steps that elevate the quality and meets our expectations: optical sorting, grading, and storing in Grain-pro bags.

✓ Grading separates the Kona coffee into different sizes and removes some defects.
✓ Optical sorting removes discolored and damaged beans.
✓ Grain-pro storage protects the delicate coffee from Hawaii's humid environment.

In addition to harvesting only ripe, red Kona coffee cherry, these three steps separate exceptional specialty-grade Kona coffee from commodity-grade Kona coffee beans.

 Farm: Kona Earth

Varietal: Kona typica

  • How did you brew this coffee? Pour over method w freshly ground beans

Best coffee anywhere

We are true coffee snobs- we care about roasting dates, roasting methods, sustainably and most of all we care about consistency, smoothness and richness of flavor. While we’ve experienced coffees and tastings all over the world, we feel so lucky to have discovered Kona bloom on our last trip to Hawaii and I doubt we’ll ever drink anything else. It is worth every penny.

100% Kona is heaven on earth

This coffee makes me want to get out of bed. From the aromatic smell while grinding to the first drip, I can’t wait to savor every sip! Bold but not bitter. This is a great flavorful coffee. The other coffee makers have nothing on Big Island Coffee Roasters. With 100% Kona, they knock it out of the park. My new favorite on auto order!

I've become rather obsessive ...

I've become rather obsessive about my coffee selections in recent years and have always been fascinated by Hawaiian coffee. Maybe because it's grown in the US or because of the romance of Hawaii, and my memories of each visit. Each coffee selection from Big Island Coffee Roasters has exceeded expectations and warms my soul. I'm a huge fan and I would love to see how y'all create this amazing coffee. For now, I'll just enjoy each cup and think of all the hard work that goes into making my mornings so wonderful.

Fantastic Coffee; Fantastic Service

I’ve been a fan of Kona coffee since my first visit to the Big Island. The Kona Bloom definitely takes it to a new level of smooth, flavorful, and comfort (it smells great when brewing). The ordering process was a breeze; delivery was fast (it’s a long way to Pennsylvania).

  • How did you brew this coffee? I put this through my Chemex: 40g of coffee to 700g of water. Medium grind, tight bloom of about 65g. Turned out really well but I think next time I try this ratio I'll increase my bloom and maybe loosen the grind a tad

Fantastic Kona For All

This is a very nice Kona, definitely one of the better Konas I have tried. Theres a nice acidity at the end but it isn't astringent at all, the tasting notes mention peach but I get more apricot. This is a really well roasted coffee, it isn't smoky and over-roasted but there enough roastiness to it to really maximize the nice mellow sweetness that is characteristic of Kona coffee. And I honestly think this is priced very fairly, especially considering the way most retailers price their Kona or Kona blends. All in all a fantastic single origin and a great coffee for anyone to enjoy; accessible to someone who is just dipping their toes in the specialty coffee world yet at the same time nuanced for the obsessive coffee drinker.

Quality Hawaiian coffee

I finally pulled the trigger on this after the free shipping offer. This was an excellent cup, great in both pour over (bringing out a very pleasing brightness to the forefront) or french press (more prominent toffee notes). Can you get an equally excellent cup of Columbian or Central American coffee for a little cheaper? Sure. But honestly, for those of us who have went down the coffee rabbit hole, this cost likely pales in comparison to the brewers/grinders/equipment that we have already invested in. You should buy this coffee if you interested in high quality coffee and want to taste what Kona has to offer and/or want to support the Kona coffee industry as well as a high quality Hawaiian roaster.

Since leaving the islands I bring a little of Hawaii here to Boise, Idaho from Big Island Roasters. This time I got the Kona Bloom but have also ordered in the past Kau Morning Glory and the coffee from the Hamakua Coast. I forget the name of that coffee. All of them stay so ono !

Your Hawaiian coffees are the best

Wow, great coffee beans. I visited Hawaii 15 years ago and fell in love with Hawaiian coffee. I visited several coffee farms and have had various coffees shipped directly to me. Your coffees are the best and I like your style of agriculture.

See those bubbles? When your coffee blooms with bubbles it’s a sign that it’s been recently roasted. The fresher the coffee, the more intensity you’ll get because great flavors and aromas fade over time.
