Ka‘ū Giant Maragogipe is one of the most distinctive coffees we release—rare, eagerly anticipated, and cherished by those who love expressive, floral, and fruit-forward Hawaiian coffees. Maragogipe (pronounced mah-rah-go-HEE-peh) is a natural mutation of Arabica Typica. Often called the “elephant bean” for its strikingly large size, it offers a cup profile known for elegance, aromatic lift, and nuanced complexity.
Though celebrated among coffee enthusiasts, Maragogipe is scarcely planted due to its very low yields and vulnerability to rust. In Hawai‘i, only a handful of small farms in Ka‘ū cultivate it, often as a curiosity or a passion project rather than a commercial crop. These trees produce only limited amounts each season, making every release of Ka‘ū Maragogipe naturally rare. We mill it in small batches and roast it to order to preserve its delicate aromatics and remarkable clarity.
Ka‘ū Giant Maragogipe is a coffee that invites slow savoring, a rare variety, grown with care, and celebrated for the unique beauty it brings to the cup.
MEDIUM-LIGHT - 94 POINTS: Very rich, very sweet, complex and multilayered. Amber, dried nectarine, almond butter, graphite, wisteria in aroma and cup. Balanced, malic (apple-like) acidity; plush, very syrupy mouthfeel. Lingering finish consolidates to notes of nectarine and amber.

Because Espresso Bites are made without stabilizers or preservatives, they may bloom or melt when shipping temperatures exceed 80 F. If this is a concern in your location please select FedEx shipping.
If you notice a white color to your bar, it's perfectly safe to eat. This happens when the cocoa butter softens and migrates to the surface. It happens more often when shipping in warm weather. Learn more about blooming.
Espresso Bites that melt or bloom when shipped via FedEx are eligible for a full refund or credit.
Espresso Bites that melt or bloom when the buyer elects Free Shipping or standard USPS are eligible for a credit.
