Ka'u Cloud Natural | 100% Kau Coffee

  • Tasting notes:  cherry cordial, stewed red apple, tropical fruit, sandalwood, leather, lavender; earth, fruit, and flowers.

  • Roast:
medium       Origin: Ka’u District, Big Island

Natural processed coffees are harvested and then dried fully intact as a whole fruit. What results is a deeply fruited, full-bodied, exotic coffee experience that often has a fuller body than its counterparts.

We recommend this natural process as an espresso with steamed milk or french press. With the addition of a little steamed milk, it's strawberry and chocolate milk for days!

Specialty-grade natural coffees are uncommon in Hawaii because they demand long term care and attention to detail. If the weather is cool or the coffee cherry takes too long to dry, the fruit sugars might ferment and taint the coffee;  yet if it's dried too quickly, the brewed coffee may taste woody and the green coffee has a reduced shelf life. In dry countries like Africa, natural processed coffees are more common and less risky. But in Hawaii's moist climate they're costly, risky, and difficult to produce. Hence the relative rarity.

Meet the farmer who produced this beautiful natural Hawaiian Ka'u coffee: Miles Mayne. Like many of us, Miles was called to coffee. His poetic love for what coffee represents goes back to his childhood and may be stronger than the awards his coffees bring...

"Coffee is a part of who I am. It runs through my veins. I was born into a marginal farming family but always dreamt of a brighter future. The future was inspired by my father’s small coffee and cardamom estate in the Western Ghats of India, where every morning as a child I awoke to the aroma of coffee...

Farming as a career was discouraged as there was just no money to be made in farming.  When I retired, I knew it was time to go back to my first passion  coffee brings my heart home."

Orders are roasted Monday-Thursday and shipped Tuesday-Friday.

Coffee orders may take 1-3 days to process based volume at the time.

FedEx orders are prioritized, roasted immediately, and shipped Monday-Friday. We cannot ship Fedex packages on Saturdays nor offer Saturday delivery. When free shipping is your elected service, we may ship via USPS First Class, Priority, FedEx or UPS.

Roast dates are applied to your order.

Because Espresso Bites are made without stabilizers or preservatives, they may bloom or melt when shipping temperatures exceed 80 F.  If this is a concern in your location please select FedEx shipping.

If you notice a white color to your bar, it's perfectly safe to eat! This happens when the cocoa butter softens and migrates to the surface. It happens more often when shipping in warm weather. Learn more about blooming.

Espresso Bites that melt or bloom when shipped via FedEx are eligible for a full refund or credit.

Espresso Bites that melt or bloom when the buyer elects Free Shipping or standard USPS are eligible for a credit.

    Aloha to your tastebuds!

I've been working in the coffee industry for so many years and until today I've never had a Hawaiian coffee that I've actually enjoyed. I've been searching actively for one this entire time truth be told. The Ka'u Cloud natural coffee from Big Island Coffee Roasters is legit the best coffee I've ever had from Hawaii. The coffee is smooth, clean, and tastes of pineapple, chocolate, and berries. I drink my coffee black via pour over or chemex so I really appreciate that this coffee was roasted lighter so I can taste these lovely natural notes. It's not every day you see a natural coffee from Hawaii so this really made my day. I'm hopeful I can find more amazing tasting coffees from Hawaii but this one will always be the very first one that I truly and genuinely loved.

See those bubbles? When your coffee blooms with bubbles it’s a sign that it’s been recently roasted. The fresher the coffee, the more intensity you’ll get because great flavors and aromas fade over time.
