At Home Recipe: Moku Affogato

"Moku" is the Hawaiian word for island, and our version of the Affogato puts an island-inspired spin on a tired and true favorite. Our Moku Affogato is a delightful twist on the classic Italian dessert, affogato, which traditionally consists of a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice cream "drowned" (affogato in Italian) in a shot of hot espresso.  The Moku Affogato adds a Hawaiian touch by incorporating flavors reminiscent of the islands.

Our Moku Affogato starts with a scoop of rich, creamy coconut gelato (we use Nicoco's Gelato), evoking the tropical flavors of Hawaii. Instead of traditional espresso, a shot of locally sourced Hawai'i grown coffee is poured over the gelato. The combination of the smooth gelato and the robust, aromatic Hawaiian coffee creates a harmonious blend of flavors that's both indulgent and refreshing.

This fusion dessert not only pays homage to the Italian culinary tradition but also celebrates the unique flavors of Hawaii, making it a favorite treat among locals and visitors alike. Whether enjoyed as a sweet ending to a meal or as a pick-me-up on a warm Hawaiian day, our Moku Affogato offers a delightful taste of paradise.
